Look Ma, I'm Sorta Kinda Famous...again

Chanting works! After 10 days of off and on rain, the sun came out on Mother's Day and stayed out. Except for some pretty brisk winds, it was a perfect day and I landed in the perfect spot.

Habana Outpost is an oh-so-cool, eco-friendly outdoor restaurant that opened up in Brooklyn not long ago that leases sidewalk space to vendors. Only two of us showed up and we were in a prime location. Lots of foot traffic, we were surrounded by other restaurants and shops and best of all, Habana has a DJ! They spun everything from Caribbean to Afro-Cuban to Motown to old school oldies... this vendor was in heaven!

I've resisted accepting credit cards in the past but I finally signed up with a service last week and I'm so glad I did. It's a little more work but it definitely helped sales and I'm sorry I didn't do it when I started.

Best news: A man walked up to my booth and asked, "Were you at P.S. 9?" It took me a minute to get the reference: when I decided to venture into the NYC craft show circuit a few months ago, the first one was at P.S. 9, a small school in a neighborhood not far from where I used to live. I said yes and as he started to reply, he seemed familiar.

"Were you at the show with a little boy or a little girl?"

"A little boy; that was my two year old son. I bought a pair of earrings from you for my wife and she loved them. But my son got a hold of them and mangled them! When I saw you and your table, I wasn't sure if it was you but I decided to come over and find out."

I remembered which pair he bought because I hadn't had many sales that day. It just so happened that I had a pair that were nearly identical and I showed them to him. He was thrilled that he could replace them for his wife and needless to say, I was thrilled that he remembered me! Look, Ma, I'm sorta kinda famous!

When it was time to go, the street corner was crowded with people enjoying the weather, waiting to get into the local restaurants, and just hanging out and I was tempted to stay and do the same because a friend of mine came by and chatted with me for the last couple of hours of the show. She took the photo accompanying this blog entry; please overlook the Sideshow Bob hairdo -- I told you it was windy!

But it had been a long day and I was anxious to get home. Best of all, the subway station was right on the corner, just a few steps from where my table was. In less than 20 minutes, I was packed up and ready to go.

Nice weather, a prime location, chatting with a friend, grooving to great music, and I made my table fee back several times over. Who could ask for anything more?

Yay Lee! I'm so happy that you had a good craft show experience -- finally! And I'm thrilled that you started taking credit cards. It can make a huge difference.

Oh how wonderful for you. Getting your sales mojo back in a great place with cool music. I suppose it could not have been better.

Happy Mother's Day indeed!

That's so cool that he recognized you, and that you had a pair of earrings like that on hand!

Thanks all for stopping by! I've been asking The Universe for a break for some time and I guess it was finally my turn. :-)
